RUTH BECKERMANN - mini retrospective in Tirana
The Albanian National film Archive and the Austrian embassy, are very honored to present four acclaimed documentaries by Berlinale-award winning filmmaker Ruth Beckermann.
Beckermann will be with us in person in Tirana from Monday, September 30th to Wednesday, October 2nd to present each of her films and do a Q & A afterwards.
On Monday, September 30th at 21:00, Ruth's documentary THE WALDHEIM WALTZ will be shown at the Kinema Millennium. This film chronicles the true story of the 1986 election run by Kurt Waldheim, a former Nazi and UN Secretary General, who attempted to cover up his wartime crimes.
On Tuesday, October 1st, Ruth Beckermann will be present her Viennale-winning documentary EAST OF WAR at 21:00. This controversial and powerful film was shot at a museum showing German war crimes with Ruth interviewing veterans about what they remember and what they deny.
On Wednesday, October 2nd, Ruth Beckermann will present two of her films at the Kinema Agimi. At 19:00, Ruth will show her emotional 2013 essay, THOSE WHO GO THOSE WHO STAY. Then at 21:00, Ruth's brilliant 1983 historical journey into the Jewish past of the Austrian capital, RETURN TO VIENNA, will be screened.
AQSHF director Iris Elezi will conduct an onstage master class Q & A with Ruth Beckermann between the films.
All screenings are free entry and were made possible through the support of Raiffeisen Bank and the Albanian Culture Ministry. All the films subtitled in English and Albanian. Please come and be a part of this special event.
