Retrospective of films from North Macedonia, November 14 - 17, 2019

The Albanian Film Archive (AQSHF) and the Cinematheque of the Republic of North Macedonia, invites all film lovers in Tirana and beyond to the Agimi Cinema next week to see a retrospective of films from North Macedonia.
Among the treasures from our Balkan neighbour to the east will be two films by the remarkable director Stole Popov, the US Academy Award-nominated short DAE (1979) and his triple Pula winning HAPPY NEW YEAR (1986).
We will also be showing a brand new DCP restoration of writer/director Milcho Manchevski's 1994 Venice Golden Lion-winning drama BEFORE THE RAIN.
This spotlight on North Macedonian movie-making past and present will conclude with a selection of silent images from the Balkan pioneers of early cinema, the Manaki Brothers.
On Friday, November 15th, we are very honored to show the acclaimed Berlinale winner GOD EXISTS, HER NAME IS PETRUNYA.
This fifth feature from writer and director Teona Strugar Mitevska tells the story of an unemployed young woman who must fight for her life after she takes a sacred religious cross away from a mob of angry men. Actress Zorica Nusheva delivers a heartbreaking performance as the heroic Petrunya and the talented Albanian actor, Xhevdet Jashari, is featured in this wonderful and emotional satire as a sympathetic television cameraman.
