In Memoriam - ADRIANA ELINI

This Friday, January 24th, 2020 at 11 am, the AQSHF will honor the Kinostudio documentary filmmaker Adriana Elini (1937-1994). From the late 1960s to the end of the New Albania Film Studio era, Adriana made dozens of short non-fiction films (nineteen finished docs in the 1970's alone!).
Despite the sheer quantity and quality of her work, her name is not as well known as her contemporaries and her films seldom seen. The Friday, the AQSHF will do its best to change this notion. We invite you to come to see three of Adriana Elini's documentaries in color, in 35mm, and on the big screen in our comfortable 80 seat theater at the film archive's facility.
The first short, SHETEPITE MALORE TE PUSHIMIT (1976) is a vivid look at vacations amid the natural beauty of the countryside. CDO VIJE, NJE VIZATIM (1984) delightfully follows curious children inside a classroom while the charming FANFARA E TE VEGJELVE (1985) warmly chronicles a young brass music band and their patient teacher. Adriana Elini's documentaries capture an Albania long gone and feature her wonderfully characteristic, tightly-composed close-up shots of workers and children.
The director of the Albanian National Film Archive, Iris Elezi, will make a short presentation about Adriana Elini. We will be joined by family and friends of the filmmaker and her creative collaborator, the screenwriter Ilia Dede who recently passed away and made his own documentary about Adriana Elini.
