The Albanian National Film Archive is pleased to invite you to the "Archival Film Nights" for the restoration premiere of two Albanian films: "Death of the Horse" and "Years of Waiting", as well as for the Albanian premiere of the Irish film, TO THE MOON - "Love poem to the Moon", on September 20, 21 and 22, at 19:00, in the Olympic Park, Tirana. Even during this difficult period of the pandemic, AQSHF has moved forward safely with the restorations of classic Albanian films that will be screened in cinemas after the end of the pandemic.
Phase 1 of the restoration project for the film "Death of the Horse" - professional scanning for the acquisition of digital material was made possible pro bono by the restorer Shai Drori in 2019 in his Audio-Video-Film studio in Modin, Israel, under the agreement of AQSHF with Mr. Shai Drori and the Embassy of Israel in Albania, which enabled the transport of 35mm film elements. Phase 2: Restoration of image and sound with special software was done by the Australian filmmaker Mr. Steven Kastrissios in 2021, thanks to the support of the Association of European Cinematographers, Association des Cinémathèques Européennes (ACE). AQSHF joined ACE in June 2019, and was selected as part of the program A Season of Classic Films among 22 European film archives to restore and show online classic films with the aim to raise international awareness of the importance and preservation of film heritage. The online world premiere of the restored movie "Death of the Horse", as part of the program A Season of Classic Films supported by Creative Europe, was shown online from 19 to 26 May 2021.
The restoration project of the Albanian movie "Years of Waiting" - AQSHF collaborated with the producer from Ireland, Mrs. Clare Stronge for identifying sequences from Albanian films, and including them in the ambitious project TO THE MOON - a film essay dedicated to the Moon, produced by Fabula Films and directed by Tadhg O’Sullivan. The use of selected sequences from the Albanian film "Years of Waiting" was achieved thanks to the cooperation and understanding that the whole film would be scanned by the well-known restorer Mr. Reto Kromer - who as a board member of ACP - Albanian Cinema Project and supports the AQSHF since 2012. The scanning of the fourth longest Albanian film was done in the AV Preservation by reto.ch laboratory in Ecublens, Switzerland, with the financial support of Fabula Films and AV Preservation by reto.ch. AQSHF cooperated with Mr. Steven Kastrissios for the second phase of the film restoration in March 2021, and the world premiere of the restored version "Years of Waiting" was shown online at the prestigious goEast Festival: Festival of Central and Eastern European Film, in April 2021.
The only presentation of Albania last year at the Venice Film Festival came thanks to the collaboration of AQSHF with the film TO THE MOON, which included a segment from the film "Years of Waiting" directed by Esat Musliu, as well as a poem by Visar Zhiti. After the premieres at the Venice and Telluride Film Festival - USA, the film "Moon Love Poem" continues its journey around the world being appreciated in festivals such as Dublin, Dok Leipzig, etc., and the premiere in Albania, as part of the program "Archival Film Nights" of the AQSHF.
